Niki Lauda - A Formula 1 Legend in His Own Time



Formula One racing is more than a fair share of legendary drivers, but very few have dominated much in a short time on the track and Nicholas Andreas Lauda. Simply known by his friends, family and many fans as the "Niki" Lauda was born on 22 February 1949 in Vienna, Austria.

in a total of nearly 11 seasons (1971-1979, 82-85), Niki began to trace 171, won 25 of them, stood on the podium 54 times, claimed 24 poles, and took an impressive championship 3 times (1975, 77, 84). It was a racing legend before his first retirement, but came back to prove your talent.

Lauda was born into a wealthy family that frowned on his decision to start the race. However, Niki was determined that the driver, and he will spend much of his youth chasing his Need for Speed. In 1968, young Niki will get a chance to prove their worth, but it was not until 1973 that he finally broke through and got the chance to race with Formula 1 through the March team.

first year as an F1 driver was anything but impressive, but the Ferrari team began to retool, Niki got the chance to grab their attention and finished second in his debut race for the team. Their faith in him finally paid off and Lauda has become an essential part of the race Ferrari.

He would win six consecutive months, but his inexperience cost him most of the race. It was on one off-again affair with Lauda, as he drove very well, but it never seemed the type to close the race strong.

In 1975, after several years of big league experience, Niki season long efforts paid off, and he earned enough points to win his first F1 Championship. At this point in his career, Lauda drove high.

The German Grand Prix a year later in 1976, Lauda will suffer serious injuries in a devastating accident. His downfall is ironically known today, and it is astonishing enough that he did not die in it. Lauda suffered very serious burns and other injuries, but with the intention of racing, he climbed back into his Ferrari just six weeks later. However, many speculate that this decline is Niki tend to worry too much risk involved in the sport.

As he drew closer to his second F1 Championship, with only the last race in Japan to go, Niki takes only a solid finish to secure the title. But after driving only two rounds, Lauda withdrew from the race because of wet conditions on the track and lost the title of James Hunt.

In 1977, Lauda quickly climbed back on top, easily winning the championship that year, although he only finished first in three races on the tour. He would leave Ferrari for Brabham in 1978, after two unsuccessful seasons with the team struggling, Lauda decided to quit and form their own airline.

The airline began to struggle financially, Niki returned to racing in 1982 with McLaren. He will win his third and final championship in 1984 and retire for good in 1985.
